From Wednesday (May 3) onwards, Singaporeans and permanent residents do not have to manually key in personal information such as their NRIC number and address or submit physical documents for verification when opening bank accounts with OCBC, UOB, DBS and Standard Chartered. MyInfo, a consent-based platform created by the Government Technology Agency (GovTech) and the Ministry of Finance, will allow banking customers to pull their personal data from public agencies to fill out e-forms.
MyInfo obtains personal data from participating government agencies and users can also create their own personal profile for greater convenience when using Government eservices. The service, launched in May 2016, speeds up the process of filling in information in multiple online forms and can potentially reduce data entry errors.
As of now, there are 19 e-government services linked to MyInfo and plans are being made to increase this number to 150 by next year. Banking customers can also look forward to using MyInfo when applying for home loans or credit cards online next year.
